How to use Word frequency counter
Word Frequency Counter lists every word in your text with the number of times it appears, sorted from most to least frequent or alphabetically. Counting ignores case by default and skips common English words such as the, a, and and of, using a list you can edit. You can also set a minimum word length and cap how many words are shown.
- Type or paste your source, or load an example.
- Change the basic settings or open Advanced mode to fine-tune the result.
- Review and copy or download your result. Pause Live results to run manually. Sources or individual settings above 20,000 characters require an explicit run.

Frequently asked questions
How do I exclude common words like the and and from a word frequency count?
Edit Ignore these words, a comma-separated list that starts with the, a, an, and, or, of, to and in. Add your own words or clear the field to count everything. Matching against the list ignores capitalization.
Can I paste word frequency results into a spreadsheet?
Yes. The copyable text output puts each word and its count on one line separated by a tab, so it pastes into two spreadsheet columns. The on-page table shows the same Word and Count columns.
How do I ignore short words in a word frequency count?
Set Minimum word length in Advanced mode, from 1 to 100. Shorter words are skipped before counting, and length is measured in visible characters, so an accented letter counts once.
Where is my input processed?
This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.
What are the input limits?
