## Overview (en)

Text Readability Checker scores English text with the Flesch Reading Ease formula and shows the word count, sentence count and estimated syllables behind the score. Syllables are estimated with a heuristic that counts vowel groups and adjusts for endings like silent e and ed. Higher scores mean easier text. The check runs only when English is the interface language.

## Supported tasks (en)

Uses an English Flesch Reading Ease estimate with heuristic syllable counting. This formula is not offered for other interface languages.

## Questions (en)

### How is the Flesch Reading Ease score calculated?

The score is 206.835 minus 1.015 times the average words per sentence, minus 84.6 times the average syllables per word. Long sentences and words with many syllables both lower the result, which is shown with one decimal place.

### Why does the readability checker show an error in another language?

The Flesch formula and the syllable heuristic are designed for English, so the tool refuses to run when the interface language is not English. Switch the site to English to analyze your text.

### How accurate is the syllable count?

It is an estimate. Each word counts its groups of vowels, including y, after trimming endings such as silent e or ed, with a minimum of one syllable per word. Unusual words, names and abbreviations can be miscounted.

### Where is my input processed?

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.

### What are the input limits?
