MD5 checksum generator calculates the MD5 digest of the exact UTF-8 bytes of your text, shown as lowercase hex, uppercase hex or Base64. It is meant for legacy checksums and matching older systems. MD5 is not suitable for cryptographic security, so use SHA-256 for anything security-related.

### Is MD5 safe for passwords or security?

No. MD5 is suitable only for legacy checksums, not cryptographic security. Use a SHA-2 algorithm such as SHA-256 when you need a secure digest.

### Why does my MD5 hash differ from another generator?

The digest is calculated over the exact UTF-8 bytes, so a trailing space or line break gives a different result. Check that the other tool uses the same text and output format.

### Can I get an uppercase MD5 hash?

Yes. In Advanced mode set Digest format to HEX for uppercase hexadecimal. The other choices are lowercase hex, the default, and Base64.
