Tool ID: environment-file-editor. Requested language: tk. Description language: en. Complete guide translation: no; untranslated sections use English.

## Overview (en)

The Environment file editor parses a .env-style file of KEY=value lines and returns a cleaned version you can copy or download as environment.env. It can sort keys alphabetically and mask every value as [REDACTED] for sharing. An export prefix is accepted, comment lines are dropped, duplicate keys raise an error, and values are kept literally without variable expansion.

## Supported tasks (en)

Parse and normalize local key-value files without exposing values in logs.

## Steps (en)

1. Type or paste your source, or load an example.
2. Change the basic settings or open Advanced mode to fine-tune the result.
3. Review and copy or download your result. Pause Live results to run manually. Sources or individual settings above 20,000 characters require an explicit run.

## Settings

- Sort keys (en; key: sort; type: checkbox)
- Mask values in exported output (en; key: redact; type: checkbox)

## Limitations (en)

CSV/XLSX inputs are capped at 10 MB each, 200 columns and 20,000 rows; joined output is capped at 20,000 rows. JSONPath script/filter evaluation is disabled. Other operations apply their visible controls and text limits.

## Example input

```text
PORT=3000
APP_NAME="ToolCabana"
DEBUG=false
```

## Privacy and connections (en)

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.

## Questions (en)

### How do I mask secrets in a .env file before sharing it?

Turn on Mask values in exported output. Every value is replaced with "[REDACTED]" while the key names stay, so you can share the list of required variables without exposing passwords or tokens. Keep a separate copy of the original values.

### What .env syntax does the editor accept?

Each line must be one KEY=value assignment, optionally starting with export. Keys must start with a letter or underscore and contain only letters, digits and underscores. Lines starting with # are treated as comments and left out of the output, and multiline values are not supported.

### What happens if the same key appears twice?

The editor stops with a Duplicate key error that names the key, rather than silently keeping the first or last value. Remove or rename one of the entries and run it again. Up to 5,000 nonempty lines are accepted.

### Where is my input processed?

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.

CSV/XLSX inputs are capped at 10 MB each, 200 columns and 20,000 rows; joined output is capped at 20,000 rows. JSONPath script/filter evaluation is disabled. Other operations apply their visible controls and text limits.
