## Overview (en)

The image alternative text worksheet helps you write alt text based on an image's purpose. Choose informative, decorative or functional, describe the meaning or function, and add nearby context; it returns a ready alt attribute with purpose-specific guidance. Decorative images get an empty alt attribute. It does not analyze images and does not certify accessibility.

## Privacy and connections (en)

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.

## Questions (en)

### When should alt text be empty?

Choose decorative only when the image adds no meaning, such as an ornamental divider. The worksheet then outputs alt="" so assistive technology can skip the image, and ignores any description you typed.

### How do I write alt text for a linked image or button?

Pick functional and describe the action or destination, such as Search or Go to home page, rather than what the picture looks like. The worksheet places your text in an alt attribute with quotes and special characters escaped.

### Does this tool generate alt text automatically from an image?

No. You write the description and nothing is inferred from the image. The context field is a reminder to avoid repeating nearby page text; it appears in the worksheet but not in the alt attribute.

### Where is my input processed?

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.

### What are the input limits?
