Tool ID: compress-image. Requested language: mt. Description language: en. Complete guide translation: no; untranslated sections use English.

## Overview (en)

Compress image re-encodes a photo or graphic as WebP, JPEG or lossless PNG to reduce its file size. A quality slider runs from 0.1 to 1, and optional maximum width and height values scale large images down without ever enlarging them. The result lists the original size, output size and percentage change, and several images can be compressed into one ZIP.

## Supported tasks (en)

Reduce image size with a format and quality you choose.

## Steps (en)

1. Choose a source file. If the tool accepts multiple files, arrange them in the order you want.
2. Adjust the basic settings, then open Advanced mode for export and fine-tuning options. Custom settings stay active when the panel is closed.
3. Run compress image, review the output, then use the available copy or download controls.

## Settings

- Output format (en; key: format; type: select): WebP [en], JPEG [en], PNG (lossless) [en]
- Quality (en; key: quality; type: range); minimum: 0.1; maximum: 1
- Maximum width (0 = original) (en; key: maxWidth; type: number); minimum: 0; maximum: 10000
- Maximum height (0 = original) (en; key: maxHeight; type: number); minimum: 0; maximum: 10000
- JPEG background (en; key: background; type: color)

## Limitations (en)

Images are limited to 32 megapixels and 16,000 pixels per side. Most operations accept one source; supported batch operations produce a ZIP archive.

## Privacy and connections (en)

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.

## Questions (en)

### Which format gives the smallest file when compressing an image?

It depends on the image, so the tool reports the original size, output size and percentage change after each run. Compression can sometimes produce a larger file, especially with PNG, so compare the numbers and check the result at 100% before downloading.

### What happens to transparent areas when I compress to JPEG?

JPEG has no transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with the JPEG background color, white by default. You can pick another color in Advanced settings. WebP and PNG output keep the transparent areas.

### Can I compress multiple images at once?

Yes. Select several images and each one is compressed independently with the same settings. The download is a single ZIP, the preview shows the first result, and the size savings compare image bytes before ZIP packaging.

### Where is my input processed?

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.

### What are the input limits?

Images are limited to 32 megapixels and 16,000 pixels per side. Most operations accept one source; supported batch operations produce a ZIP archive.
