### How do I calculate sales tax on a purchase?

Enter the pre-tax price and your combined tax rate, with Amount is set to before tax. Tax equals price × rate / 100, rounded half-up to the cent. For 100.00 at 8%, the tax is 8.00 and the total is 108.00.

### How do I find the price before tax from a receipt total?

Choose including tax. The total is divided by (1 + rate/100) and rounded to the cent, and the tax is whatever remains. A total of 108.00 at 8% splits into 100.00 before tax and 8.00 tax.

### Does the sales tax calculator look up state or city rates?

No. It applies only the rate you enter, between 0 and 100%. If your purchase has state, county and city taxes, add them together into one combined percentage before entering it.
