How to use Base64 encoder decoder
Base64 encoder decoder converts text to Base64 using the exact UTF-8 bytes, or decodes Base64 back into UTF-8 text. A URL-safe option uses - and _ instead of + and / and omits padding. When decoding, a leading data: URI prefix is removed, and invalid characters, padding or non-UTF-8 bytes are reported as errors.
- Type or paste your source, or load an example.
- Change the basic settings or open Advanced mode to fine-tune the result.
- Review and copy or download your result. Pause Live results to run manually. Sources or individual settings above 20,000 characters require an explicit run.

Frequently asked questions
How do I decode a Base64 string?
Turn on Decode, paste the Base64 text and run the tool. Surrounding spaces and a data: URI prefix are removed first, and the result is shown as UTF-8 text.
What is URL-safe Base64?
URL-safe Base64 replaces + with - and / with _ and leaves out the = padding. Turn on the URL-safe option for both encoding and decoding when working with tokens or URL parameters.
Can I decode Base64 that contains an image or binary file?
No. Decoded bytes must form valid UTF-8 text, so binary data such as images is rejected. This tool also encodes typed text only, not uploaded files.
Where is my input processed?
This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.
What are the input limits?
Text operations generally accept up to 2,000,000 characters. Individual parsers, generators and formulas apply additional limits shown by their controls.
