How to use Scientific calculator

The Scientific calculator evaluates a typed arithmetic expression such as sqrt(144) + sin(pi / 2) and returns a single real-number result. It supports trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functions, sqrt, abs, log, log10, exp, floor, ceil, round, exponents, factorials and the constants pi and e. Angles are in radians, and expressions are limited to 500 characters.

  1. Paste the source into the input editor, or load the built-in example.
  2. Check the source format before running the operation.
  3. Run scientific calculator, review the output, then use the available copy or download controls.

What this tool supports

Evaluate a restricted real-number arithmetic expression.

Limits and processing

Text operations generally accept up to 2,000,000 characters. Individual parsers, generators and formulas apply additional limits shown by their controls.

Example source
sqrt(144) + sin(pi / 2)

Frequently asked questions

Does the scientific calculator use degrees or radians?

Radians. sin(pi / 2) returns 1, while sin(90) treats 90 as radians. To work with degrees, multiply by pi / 180 inside the function, for example sin(30 * pi / 180).

Which functions can I use in an expression?

The accepted functions are sin, cos, tan, asin, acos, atan, sqrt, abs, log, log10, exp, floor, ceil and round, with the constants pi and e. Any other name returns Unknown function or constant, and variables or assignments are not evaluated.

Why do I get no finite real result?

The expression must evaluate to an ordinary finite number. Results such as the square root of a negative number, division by zero or overflow are rejected rather than shown as complex numbers or infinity. Very long exponent and factorial expressions are also refused.

Where is my input processed?

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.

What are the input limits?

Text operations generally accept up to 2,000,000 characters. Individual parsers, generators and formulas apply additional limits shown by their controls.
