How to use Hex file viewer

The Hex file viewer reads a slice of any file and shows it as rows of 16 bytes, with an 8-digit hexadecimal offset, the bytes in hex and an ASCII column. You choose the starting byte offset and how many bytes to view, up to 65,536 at a time. Bytes outside printable ASCII are shown as dots.

  1. Choose a source file. If the tool accepts multiple files, arrange them in the order you want.
  2. Set byte offset, bytes to view.
  3. Run hex file viewer, review the output, then use the available copy or download controls.

What this tool supports

Inspect bounded binary slices with offsets and ASCII columns.

Byte offset
Range: 0 to 1000000000
Bytes to view
Range: 1 to 65536

Limits and processing

Up to 200 files, 20 MB each and 100 MB combined. PDFs are limited to 500 pages, contact sheets to 100 pages, and bookmark trees to 1,000 entries and 20 nesting levels. Individual operations apply smaller output limits.

Frequently asked questions

How do I view the header bytes of a file in hex?

Upload the file and leave Byte offset at 0. The default view shows the first 256 bytes, which usually covers file signatures such as PNG or PDF headers. Increase Bytes to view, up to 65,536, for more.

How do I jump to a specific position in a file?

Enter the decimal byte position in Byte offset. Each row then starts with its address in hexadecimal. The offset must be inside the file, or the viewer returns an error.

Why are some characters shown as dots in the ASCII column?

Only printable ASCII bytes from 32 to 126 are drawn as characters. Control codes, bytes above 126 and parts of multi-byte UTF-8 characters appear as dots, while their exact values remain visible in the hex column.

Where is my input processed?

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.
