Sida loo isticmaalo Caesar and Vigenere cipher explorer
Caesar and Vigenere cipher explorer encodes or decodes text with two classical ciphers for learning and puzzles. Caesar shifts each Latin letter by 0 to 25 places; Vigenere uses a keyword of 1 to 100 letters, defaulting to LEMON. Letter case is preserved and spaces, digits and punctuation pass through unchanged. These ciphers are unsuitable for protecting sensitive information.
- Type or paste your source, or load an example.
- Change the basic settings or open Advanced mode to fine-tune the result.
- Review and copy or download your result. Pause Live results to run manually. Sources or individual settings above 20,000 characters require an explicit run.

How do I decode a Caesar cipher if I don't know the shift?
Set Direction to decode and try shifts from 1 to 25 one at a time until readable text appears. With only 25 meaningful shifts, this brute-force check is practical by hand, which is also why Caesar offers no real protection.
Does the Vigenere key advance on spaces and punctuation?
No. The key position only moves forward on Latin letters, so spaces, digits and punctuation are copied without using up a key letter. Decoding with the same key and the decode direction restores the original text.
Are accented letters encrypted by the cipher explorer?
No. Only the 26 unaccented Latin letters, upper or lower case, are shifted. Accented characters such as é, other alphabets and numbers are left as they are, which can reveal parts of the message.
Where is my input processed?
This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.
What are the input limits?
CSV/XLSX inputs are capped at 10 MB each, 200 columns and 20,000 rows; joined output is capped at 20,000 rows. JSONPath script/filter evaluation is disabled. Other operations apply their visible controls and text limits.
