How to use Ratio calculator
The Ratio calculator takes two parts, such as 1.5 and 2.5, and returns the ratio reduced to lowest whole-number terms, like 3:5, along with the first part's share of the total as a percentage. Decimals are scaled to exact integers before simplifying, so nothing is truncated or rounded.
- Adjust the values; an initial result is calculated from the defaults.
- Change the basic settings or open Advanced mode to fine-tune the result.
- Review and copy or download your result. Pause Live results to run manually. Sources or individual settings above 20,000 characters require an explicit run.
What this tool supports
Simplifies whole numbers and decimals such as 1.5:2.5 to an exact ratio. Both parts cannot be zero, and decimals are not truncated.

Limits and processing
Use finite numbers, valid dates and the ranges shown by each control. Invalid values produce an error without a downloadable result.
Frequently asked questions
How do I simplify a ratio with decimals?
Enter each part as a decimal. The calculator multiplies both parts by a power of ten to make them whole numbers, then divides by their greatest common divisor. 1.5:2.5 becomes 3:5. Each part can have up to 12 digits before the decimal point and 8 after.
What percentage of the total is each part of a ratio?
The calculator reports the first part of the total as a percentage, computed from the simplified ratio as first / (first + second) × 100. For 3:5, the first part is 37.5% of the total, so the second part is 62.5%.
Can a ratio include zero or negative numbers?
One part can be zero, but both parts cannot be zero at the same time. Negative values are accepted; when both parts are negative, the signs cancel. If the parts cancel to a zero total, the percentage share is omitted.
Where is my input processed?
This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.
What are the input limits?
Use finite numbers, valid dates and the ranges shown by each control. Invalid values produce an error without a downloadable result.
