How to use AI flashcard maker

AI flashcard maker turns study notes into fill-in-the-blank recall cards, each quoting a sentence from your source with the missing words as the answer. Choose 1 to 12 cards; if the source lacks enough distinct excerpts, it reports the shortfall instead of adding filler. Download JSON or a TSV file with front and back columns for study apps.

  1. Paste the source into the input editor, or load the built-in example.
  2. Set output style, processing, items / slides.
  3. Run ai flashcard maker, review the output, then use the available copy or download controls.

What this tool supports

Source-based mode creates recall blanks in literal source excerpts, with the exact missing text as the answer. Quiz distractors are other source phrases. Counts require enough distinct, unambiguous excerpts; no filler is added. Optional AI drafts can invent facts or incorrect keys.

Limits and processing

Source: 8,000 characters. Cards, quizzes and outlines: 1–12 exact items when enough distinct source excerpts exist; reduce the count or add facts if needed. Diagrams: 20 nodes and 50 directed links; arbitrary prose needs arrow syntax. Source-based mode needs no WebGPU/model download. Optional AI draft uses a tiny local model, can be wrong, and may reach its output limit.

Frequently asked questions

How do I import these flashcards into a study app?

Download flashcards.tsv. It has one card per line with the front and back separated by a tab, and any tabs or line breaks inside a card replaced by spaces. A flashcards.json file with the quoted source evidence is also provided.

Why does the flashcard maker say my source does not have enough excerpts?

Source-based mode makes at most one card per distinct sentence it can blank out cleanly, and skips prompts that would have conflicting answers. If you request more cards than that, it says how many are available; add more facts or lower Items / slides.

What is the difference between Source-based and AI draft flashcards?

Source-based cards blank out literal text from your notes and need no model download or WebGPU. AI draft uses a tiny local model through WebGPU to write questions tied to a source sentence, but it can invent facts or wrong answers, so review every card.

Where is my input processed?

Source-based mode runs in this browser without an AI model or source upload. PDF export loads a bundled font; browser fonts handle other scripts. Optional Local browser AI draft downloads public model/runtime assets and requires WebGPU.
