How to use VAT calculator
The VAT calculator takes an amount and a VAT rate you enter, from 0 to 100%, and returns the net amount, the VAT and the gross amount including VAT. It works in both directions: add VAT to a net price, or extract VAT from a price that already includes it. All amounts are rounded half-up to the nearest cent.
- Adjust the values; an initial result is calculated from the defaults.
- Change the basic settings or open Advanced mode to fine-tune the result.
- Review and copy or download your result. Pause Live results to run manually. Sources or individual settings above 20,000 characters require an explicit run.

Frequently asked questions
How do I remove VAT from a gross price?
Set Amount is to including tax. The calculator divides the gross amount by (1 + rate/100), rounds that net figure half-up to the cent, and reports the VAT as the gross amount minus the net. At 20%, a gross 120.00 splits into 100.00 net and 20.00 VAT.
How do I add VAT to a net price?
Leave Amount is set to before tax. The VAT is the amount × rate / 100, rounded half-up to the nearest cent, and is added to give the gross amount. For 100.00 at 20%, VAT is 20.00 and the total is 120.00.
Does the VAT calculator know my country's VAT rate?
No. It uses only the rate you type, so check the applicable standard or reduced rate yourself. The result describes the arithmetic and does not determine what tax is legally owed.
