How to use Compress PDF

Compress PDF rewrites a PDF and reports the original size, the output size and the percentage change. Lossless rewrite repacks the file without touching images, while Rasterize to JPEG rebuilds every page as a JPEG image at a DPI from 72 to 300 and a quality you choose. Neither method guarantees a smaller file.

  1. Choose a source file. If the tool accepts multiple files, arrange them in the order you want.
  2. Adjust the basic settings, then open Advanced mode for export and fine-tuning options. Custom settings stay active when the panel is closed.
  3. Run compress pdf, review the output, then use the available copy or download controls.

What this tool supports

Lossless rewrite preserves page content and may save little space. Raster mode converts all pages to JPEG images and removes text, forms, links and signatures.

Limits and processing

PDF input is bounded to 20 MB per file. Page rendering is capped at 200 selected pages; page-edit output is bounded to 500 pages.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my compressed PDF get bigger?

Lossless rewrite only repacks the file into object streams and does not downsample images, so the result can be larger than the original. The size change shown after each run is measured against your file, and savings are not guaranteed.

What do I lose with the Rasterize to JPEG option?

Every page becomes a JPEG picture, so text selection, links, form fields and digital signatures are removed. Use it for documents meant only for viewing or printing, and lower the DPI or JPEG quality to shrink the file further.

What DPI and quality should I use to shrink a scanned PDF?

The raster mode defaults to 120 DPI and 0.75 JPEG quality. You can set DPI between 72 and 300 and quality between 0.1 and 1; lower values give smaller files with less detail, so compare the reported size change.

Where is my input processed?

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.

What are the input limits?

PDF input is bounded to 20 MB per file. Page rendering is capped at 200 selected pages; page-edit output is bounded to 500 pages.
