Duplicate file finder
Group identical uploaded files by cryptographic digest.
How to use Duplicate file finder
The Duplicate file finder takes a set of files and groups the ones with identical contents by computing a SHA-256 digest of each. The result is a table listing each file name, its size in bytes, its SHA-256 value and how many files share that digest. File names and dates do not matter; only byte-for-byte content does.
- Choose a source file. If the tool accepts multiple files, arrange them in the order you want.
- Check the source format before running the operation.
- Run duplicate file finder, review the output, then use the available copy or download controls.
What this tool supports
Group identical uploaded files by cryptographic digest.
Limits and processing
Up to 200 files, 20 MB each and 100 MB combined. PDFs are limited to 500 pages, contact sheets to 100 pages, and bookmark trees to 1,000 entries and 20 nesting levels. Individual operations apply smaller output limits.
Frequently asked questions
How does the duplicate file finder decide two files are the same?
It reads each file and computes a SHA-256 hash of its bytes. Files with the same hash land in the same group. Two files with different names but identical contents are reported as duplicates, while a single changed byte separates them.
Will it find similar photos or near-duplicate documents?
No. Matching is exact. A resized photo, a re-saved JPEG or a document with one edited character has a different SHA-256 value and appears in its own group of size 1.
How do I read the identical group size column?
It shows how many uploaded files share the same SHA-256 value. A size of 1 means the file is unique in your selection; 2 or more means that many copies with identical bytes were found.
Where is my input processed?
This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.
