How to use Color palette generator

Color palette generator finds the dominant colors in an image and lists them as HEX codes with swatches. You choose between 2 and 16 colors. The image is reduced to a small preview, similar shades are grouped, and the most common groups are averaged into palette colors. The palette can be downloaded as palette.txt.

  1. Choose a source file. If the tool accepts multiple files, arrange them in the order you want.
  2. Set colors.
  3. Run color palette generator, review the output, then use the available copy or download controls.

Limits and processing

Images are limited to 32 megapixels and 16,000 pixels per side. Most operations accept one source; supported batch operations produce a ZIP archive.

Frequently asked questions

How does the color palette generator pick colors?

It shrinks the image to fit 120 by 120 pixels, groups pixels into coarse color buckets and ranks the buckets by how many pixels they contain. Each palette color is the average of one of the largest buckets.

Are transparent areas included in the palette?

No. Pixels that are more than half transparent are skipped, so a logo on a transparent background returns the colors of the logo itself rather than colors from the empty areas.

Why does my palette have fewer colors than I asked for?

The tool can return only as many colors as distinct color buckets it finds. A simple graphic with a few flat colors can produce fewer swatches than the requested count.

Where is my input processed?

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.
