How to use Accessible palette adjuster

The accessible palette adjuster takes a foreground and background color plus a target contrast ratio, 4.5 by default, and suggests the nearest foreground colors that reach it. It blends the foreground toward black and toward white in 1,000 steps and reports the first passing HEX value in each direction, with its contrast ratio and a text preview.

  1. Enter the requested values in the settings panel.
  2. Set foreground, background, target contrast.
  3. Run accessible palette adjuster, review the output, then use the available copy or download controls.

Limits and processing

Images use the existing 32-megapixel canvas bound. Up to 100 source images are allowed where supported. Pasted HTML is bounded to 200,000 characters; Mermaid diagrams to 20,000 characters and 300 lines. SVG and PNG generation require a browser.

Frequently asked questions

What contrast ratio should I target for WCAG?

The default target of 4.5 matches WCAG AA for normal text; 3 applies to large text and 7 to AAA. Any target from 1 to 21 can be entered. Suggestions are candidates to review, not a certified conformance result.

Why does it say no foreground can reach the target?

Against some mid-tone backgrounds, even pure black or pure white text falls short of high targets such as 7:1. The tool only adjusts the foreground, so try a lighter or darker background or a lower target.

Does the palette adjuster change the background color too?

No. Only the foreground moves, toward black or toward white, while the background stays fixed. Results are sorted by blend amount, so the first suggestion is the one closest to your original color.

Where is my input processed?

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.
