How to use Edit PDF metadata

Edit PDF metadata lets you inspect, edit or clear the standard document fields of a PDF. Inspect shows the title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, creation and modification dates and page count as JSON. Edit updates the fields you fill in and keeps blank ones, while Clear removes the document information and catalog XMP.

  1. Choose a source file. If the tool accepts multiple files, arrange them in the order you want.
  2. Set action, new title (blank = keep), new author (blank = keep), new subject (blank = keep), new keywords (comma-separated; blank = keep) and the other available options.
  3. Run edit pdf metadata, review the output, then use the available copy or download controls.

What this tool supports

Inspect, edit or clear standard document metadata. Editing removes stale catalog XMP; blank values preserve existing fields. Clearing metadata does not anonymize visible text, embedded images or attachments.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change the title of a PDF file?

Choose Edit standard fields, type the new title and run the tool. Blank fields keep their existing values, keywords are entered comma-separated, and each field accepts up to 2,000 characters.

Does clearing PDF metadata make the document anonymous?

No. Clearing removes the standard document information and catalog XMP, but visible text, embedded images, attachments and other objects can still contain identifying details. Review the content itself before sharing.

Why does the XMP metadata disappear after I edit fields?

When you edit standard fields, the catalog XMP block is removed so that stale XMP values cannot conflict with the new title, author, subject, keywords and creator you entered.

Where is my input processed?

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.

What are the input limits?

PDF input is bounded to 20 MB per file. Page rendering is capped at 200 selected pages; page-edit output is bounded to 500 pages.
