HTML entity encoder escapes the characters & < > " and ' as numeric character references, or decodes named and numeric HTML entities back into text. Encoding leaves accented letters and other characters as Unicode. Decoding treats input as text only, rejects HTML tags, and leaves unknown entity names as written.

 1. Type or paste your source, or load an example.
 2. Change the basic settings or open Advanced mode to fine-tune the result.
 3. Review and copy or download your result. Pause Live results to run manually. Sources or individual settings above 20,000 characters require an explicit run.

Only &, <, >, double quote and apostrophe are escaped, as numeric references such as < for <. Accented letters, emoji and other characters are left unchanged.

Can I decode named entities like and é?

Yes. Turn on Decode to convert named entities and numeric references, both decimal and hex, into characters. Unknown entity names are left exactly as written.

Why does decoding fail when my text contains HTML tags?

Decode mode expects entity-encoded text without tags, so input containing < or > is rejected. Remove the markup and decode only the encoded text.

This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.

What are the input limits?

Text operations generally accept up to 2,000,000 characters. Individual parsers, generators and formulas apply additional limits shown by their controls.
