How to use SHA256 hash generator
SHA256 hash generator calculates the SHA-256 digest of the exact UTF-8 bytes of your text. The digest can be shown as lowercase hex, uppercase hex or Base64. Spaces and line breaks are part of the input, so any change to them produces a different hash. It hashes text, not files.
- Type or paste your source, or load an example.
- Change the basic settings or open Advanced mode to fine-tune the result.
- Review and copy or download your result. Pause Live results to run manually. Sources or individual settings above 20,000 characters require an explicit run.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my SHA-256 hash not match another tool?
The hash covers every byte, including trailing spaces and line breaks, so an extra newline changes the result. Also confirm both tools use UTF-8 and the same output format.
Can I get the SHA-256 hash in Base64?
Yes. Set Digest format to base64 in Advanced mode. You can also choose lowercase hex, which is the default, or uppercase HEX.
Can I hash a file with the SHA256 hash generator?
No. This tool hashes the text you type or paste. Use the file checksum verifier to calculate the SHA-256 of a file from the exact file bytes.
Where is my input processed?
This operation processes its source in your browser. Copy and download are explicit actions; source input is not saved in an account or history.
What are the input limits?
Text operations generally accept up to 2,000,000 characters. Individual parsers, generators and formulas apply additional limits shown by their controls.
